Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of three Chinese nationals working at a mine in Alaska in November 2024, according to the police.
From the initial reports which said there were six armed robbers, it would imply that there are still three others at large.
The robbery occurred on November 10, 2024, when Chen Fang Jun, 49, He Long, 25, and Wang Yin Bin, 49, were shot and injured.
Insiders speculated that the robbers became violent after finding only US$800.00 on the premises as the large amount of cash they were probably targeting has already been transferred from the mine.
The three who were ferried to Harare for treatment by the Chinese 21st medical team stationed at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals returned to China for further treatment.
Following the attack, the Chinese Embassy formally engaged Zimbabwean authorities and called for a swift investigation, the apprehension of all perpetrators, and strict legal action.
The embassy has urged authorities to strengthen measures to counter crimes targeting Chinese nationals.
