Mutasa's Turkish Delight Fuels MWOS FC's Premier League Dreams

Norton-based premier league debutants MWOS FC are gearing up for a thrilling season in the top flight, fueled by the expertise of their coach, Lloyd Mutasa, and a rigorous preseason preparation.  Mutasa recently returned from a fruitful two-week attachment with Istanbul Basaksehir FK in the Turkish Super League, an experience he believes will be invaluable in Zimbabwe's football landscape.

"What I learned and experienced in Turkey is applicable in Zimbabwe, particularly in introducing some of the modern techniques in football. You will be seeing a lot," Mutasa hinted, his enthusiasm palpable.  The trip provided him with insights into match preparations, pre-match and post-match strategies, and other crucial aspects of modern football, equipping him to lead MWOS FC in their maiden Premier Soccer League voyage.

The team has also been hard at work, recently returning from a two-week training camp in Victoria Falls.  Mutasa emphasized that the preseason was about assessing the team's strengths and weaknesses rather than focusing solely on results.  They played three friendly matches against Division One clubs, including Zesa Hwange, Golden Lions, and Wangu Mazodze, giving every player a chance to showcase their abilities.  "We actually gave each and every player an opportunity to play as we looked to assess our team," Mutasa explained.

MWOS FC has also been active in the transfer market, bolstering their squad with three key signings.  Clive Maponga, formerly with Ngezi Platinum, Salif Cheya from Golden Eagles, and Matthew Murasirana from Harare City have joined the ranks, adding depth and experience to the team.  "As a coach, you will never be satisfied at all, you ought to prepare each and every time. So far we have beefed up our squad," Mutasa commented.

Having earned their spot in the top flight through a partnership with Southern Region champions ZPC Hwange, MWOS FC's primary goal is to maintain their Premier League status.  "Every team is playing in the league not to win the title. For us, firstly, we need to survive relegation, but who knows, we may end up giving surprises," Mutasa said. He added that the club's management has instilled a vision of sustained Premier League presence, relieving some of the pressure often associated with newly promoted teams.

One challenge the team faces is securing a home ground.  Ngoni Stadium, their home last season, is currently undergoing renovations.  Mutasa expressed his preference for Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi, citing its proximity to Norton, while also considering Rufaro Stadium as a viable option.  "We have not been told about our home ground, but personally, I would like to believe Baobab Stadium will be ideal for us, especially coming from Norton, and also Rufaro Stadium may do," he stated.

Mutasa is no stranger to the Premier Soccer League, having previously coached Kiglon Birds, FC Platinum, Wha Wha, and Dynamos, among others.  His experience, coupled with his recent training in Turkey and the team's dedicated preparations, suggests that MWOS FC could be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season.  Football fans eagerly await the start of the league to see how Mutasa's "Turkish delight" translates onto the Zimbabwean pitch.
