Rusape Magistrates’ Court has sentenced two men to 12 years in prison each for their involvement in a violent armed robbery that occurred at Cavalla Farm, Nyazura, on December 1, 2024.
The convicts, Godfrey Mulizwe Mihengo ,20, and Herbert Ngwenya ,46, were part of a group of robbers who stormed the home of 72-year-old Peter Dziruni and his family.
The gang assaulted the victims before stealing cash, electronics, firearms, and a Toyota Hilux, among other valuables worth US$23 775.
Law enforcement officers tracked the stolen vehicle, leading to the arrest of Mihengo and Ngwenya. Further investigations resulted in the recovery of firearms and most of the stolen property.
The duo pleaded guilty to the charges and received a 12-year prison sentence.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to combating armed robberies by ensuring swift prosecution and severe penalties for offenders.
Authorities continue their search for the remaining accomplices who are still at large.
