Two Chinese nationals, Yu Congui ,49, and Qin Xikun ,47, have been sentenced to three months in prison or a fine of US$150 each for remaining in Zimbabwe without a valid permit.

The two appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court where they were charged with entering or remaining in Zimbabwe without a valid permit.

The State alleges that on July 4, 2024, the accused entered Zimbabwe via Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare, where they were granted a Business Visa valid for 30 days, allowing them to stay until August 3, 2024.

However, between August 2024 and October 2024, the two allegedly extended their stay by renewing their Provisional Restriction Notice with the Immigration Department until November 13, 2024.

It is further alleged that when their Provisional Restriction Notice expired on November 13, 2024, they did not regularize their stay nor exit the country as required.

On February 24, 2025, the two went to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport intending to return to China. During check-in, immigration officials discovered that the accused had overstayed in the country for 102 days without a valid permit, from November 14, 2024 to February 24, 2025.

As a result, they were arrested for illegal immigration.
