A 23-year-old Glenara man has appeared in court for allegedly defrauding a complainant of money meant to purchase an engine.
Ernest Majiri appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing fraud charges. His alleged accomplice, identified only as Pardon Karuza, is still at large.
According to the State, on December 6, 2024, at around 1 PM, Majiri and Karuza misrepresented to complainant Tinashe Mutova that they could source a brand-new T6 engine from South Africa.
Believing their claims, Mutova paid US$2 250 to the pair. He was assured that the engine would arrive within three days.
However, after three weeks of unfulfilled promises, Mutova confronted the accused, who then demanded an additional US$400, bringing the total amount paid to US$2 650.
Despite repeated follow-ups, the accused allegedly failed to deliver the engine, offering excuses instead. Frustrated, Mutova reported the matter to the police, leading to Majiri’s arrest.
The complainant was prejudiced of US$2 650.
Majiri is set to return to court for further proceedings.
