A 19-year-old who allegedly raped his 14-year-old girlfriend has been taken to court.
The accused appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts, facing two counts of rape.
He will appear in court today.
The State alleges that in March 2024, the complainant was on her way home from school when the accused proposed love to her, and she accepted.
It is alleged that in August 2024, the accused invited the complainant to his house through a WhatsApp message.
The complainant then went to the accused's house and he tried to have sexual intercourse with her which she did not consent to.
The court heard that the accused then stopped, and the complainant did not disclose the matter to anyone.
The State alleges that in the same month, the accused invited the complainant to his place and she accepted.
When she arrived, the accused then allegedly forcibly had sexual intercourse with her with protection.
The matter came to light on October 23, 2024 at school after the complainant's friend told the teacher that the accused had sexual intercourse with the complainant.
She was asked and confirmed.
The complainant's class teacher informed her mother and she escorted her to the police where she filed a report leading to the arrest of the accused.
