The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company is set to collect a hefty cash amount after announcing that it will conduct mandatory inspections and re-inspections on all premises across the country.
According to a notice issued on Thursday, March 27, ZETDC stated that the inspections are aimed at ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical systems.
The power utility emphasized that recent house fires and electrical accidents highlight the importance of maintaining safe electrical installations.
ZETDC warned that unsafe wiring, faulty connections, and non-compliant installations pose serious risks to electricity users and the general public.
The inspections are intended to identify and rectify potential hazards, reducing the chances of electrical fires, shocks, and other dangers.
To facilitate these safety measures, ZETDC announced that customers will be required to pay a fee of US$25 for general statutory inspections.
For generator verification and safety inspections, the fee for generators up to 100 KW, including petrol, diesel, solar, and wind-powered systems, will be US$5, while generators exceeding 100 KW will attract a charge of US$50.
Advanced safety inspections for generators below 0 belbelKW00KW will cost US$20, whereas those above 100 KW will be charged US$100. Operators of prototype generators below 100 KW will also be required to pay US$100.
ZETDC stressed that all payments must be made through its official payment platforms, and customers will receive a receipt as proof of payment. Customers were also warned against making direct payments to individuals conducting inspections.
The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority will monitor the inspection process to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
ZEZETDC acknowledged that the inspections might cause inconvenience but urged customers to cooperate for their safety. However, the company did not specify when the inspections would begin or end.
