Man Nabbed for Burning Copper Cables at Primary School

 A 37-year-old man appeared in court facing charges of unlawful possession of copper after he was allegedly caught burning copper cables at a primary school.

Rashid Mukwanda was remanded in custody when he appeared before magistrate Isheunesu Matova at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.

According to the State, led by prosecutor Faith Mavhudzi, the incident occurred on April 1 around 8 PM at Tafara Primary School.

Mukwanda is alleged to have gone to the school’s litter dumping site and set a fire, where he began burning copper cables.

Security guard Sengu Tinotenda, who is employed by Online Security, spotted Mukwanda at the scene and went to investigate.

Upon arrival, Tinotenda reportedly found Mukwanda actively burning copper cables. He apprehended him and recovered the cables before handing him over to police at ZRP Mabvuku for further investigation.

Mukwanda is being charged with unlawful possession of copper without a valid certificate.
