A man from Epworth who allegedly attempted to flee from a neighborhood watch team was arrested and found in possession of stolen armored cable equipment.

Archlove Gororo, of Overspill in Epworth, appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with violating the Electricity Act.

The State told the court that on May 20, 2025, Gororo was spotted by a neighborhood watch team with his Toyota Wish (registration AFB 2301) parked along Harare Drive in Borrowdale.

When questioned, Gororo claimed to be a supervisor for Peace Security Company and produced identification and vehicle stickers to support his story. However, the team insisted on verifying the identities of the other occupants.

Gororo allegedly jumped into the car and sped off towards Mt Pleasant, prompting a chase. The car reportedly broke down in Mt Pleasant, forcing Gororo and four others to flee on foot.

A search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of three pieces of 70mm x 4 core armored cable, a satchel with cutting tools, a bolt cutter, and a rope. Gororo’s Peace Security Company ID was also found in the car.

To conceal his involvement, Gororo allegedly filed a false robbery report at ZRP Epworth, claiming the car had been stolen. Investigations later led to his arrest.
