Veteran football coach Luke ‘Vahombe’ Masomere has made a quick return to the touchline following his appointment as technical director for Central Region Division One side, Hard Rock FC.
The new role comes just days after his dismissal from Premier League outfit Triangle United, marking a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for the seasoned tactician.
Known for his bold personality and tactical expertise, Masomere’s move to a lower-division side has sparked widespread discussion within Zimbabwean football circles. Hard Rock FC, who have their sights set on promotion, are banking on his vast experience to reinvigorate their campaign.
Football fan Mashawa Tapiwa welcomed the appointment, saying, “Vahombe is a good coach who was unfortunate to serve an ungrateful master.”
The comment appears to reference Masomere’s rocky stint at Triangle United, who continue to struggle with inconsistency in the Premier League.
The move has also reignited debate around the volatility of coaching careers. Social media personality @Ze_Nith quipped, “The only profession where you retire when you want. The only profession where you get fired so many times and still get hired in less than 72 hours. A football coach.”
Masomere’s coaching résumé includes stints at several of Zimbabwe’s top clubs, along with a brief tenure with the national team.
Despite his abrupt exit from Triangle, his rapid return underlines his resilience and enduring relevance in Zimbabwe’s dynamic football scene.
