A man from Hopely has been brought before the courts for allegedly defrauding Livre Investments Private Limited of a stand worth US$18 436.

Timothy Mariwo, 46, appeared before Magistrate Rufaro Pavanhu to face fraud charges. He was granted bail set at US$300.

The complainant, Livre Investments Private Limited, was represented by the company’s accountant, John Chiramu.

According to the State, in February 2024, Mariwo and his accomplice, Amine Zinja, forged a sale agreement for stand number 6544 Granary Phase 3B Harare. The agreement falsely claimed that the company’s board of directors had resolved to donate the stand to Mariwo. The stand, which had a market value of US$18 436, was then recorded in the company’s database, listing Mariwo as its permanent beneficiary.

Mariwo proceeded to develop the stand, fully aware that the sale agreement was fraudulent. The crime was uncovered during a recent audit.

Following the discovery, Livre Investments filed a police report at ZRP Fife Avenue, and the matter was referred to the CID Commercial Crimes Division (CID CCD) for further investigation. On April 17, detectives located and arrested Mariwo.

As a result, the company lost US$18 436 due to the fraudulent transaction.
