Long-distance runner Royal Arnold Mabika is putting aside personal glory to pursue a higher purpose.

On April 27, he will line up for the Manchester Marathon—not for medals or records, but to secure the future of underprivileged learners in Zaka Jerera District, Zimbabwe.

For years, Mabika dreamed of launching a charity initiative. In 2025, that vision becomes reality. After researching potential races to support his cause, the Manchester Marathon stood out.

“I’ve always wanted to do a charity initiative,” he said. “So this year, I just did some research to check which races I could do, and Manchester happened to be one of them.”

Mabika isn’t running against the clock. “I don’t have any target other than finishing the race,” he shared. “I’ve just been making sure I stay in shape.”

What began as a personal mission has grown into a collective movement. Over five running clubs across the Gulf region have rallied behind Mabika, helping him raise awareness and support for the cause.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support I’m receiving from running clubs and individuals,” he said. “I would also like to appreciate the squad at the PUMA Group for standing with me.”

He also expressed deep gratitude to Diaspora Insurance for backing the initiative. Their support has been instrumental in pushing the campaign forward.

The goal is both ambitious and meaningful: to raise enough funds to pay school fees for 100 children in one of Zimbabwe’s most underserved districts.

“To the kids back in Zaka Jerera, I want to say next Sunday I’ll be running to secure your future. And I’m very sure that, with God, it will happen.”
