A 20-year-old Zengeza 5 man appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court this week facing fraud charges after allegedly posing as a Registrar General’s Office employee and taking US$25 from a member of the public to process a national identity card.
Noel Huni appeared before the court to answer to the fraud allegations.
The complainant is Kudzai Mushonga.
The court heard that the incident occurred on August 12, 2026, at the Registrar General’s Office in Market Square.
According to the State, Mushonga had gone to the offices to apply for a national identity document when he was allegedly approached by Huni.

Prosecutors allege that Huni falsely claimed to work at the Registrar General’s Office and told Mushonga that he could assist him in obtaining an identity card without difficulty.
Huni allegedly demanded US$30 for the service. Mushonga paid US$25 and was told to settle the remaining US$5 when he collected the document.
After receiving the money, Huni allegedly entered the building and did not return.
The court heard that Mushonga waited for some time before realising that he might have been conned.
He reportedly tried several times to call the phone numbers Huni had provided, but was unsuccessful.
Mushonga later reported the matter to ZRP Market Square.
Police subsequently arrested Huni after Mushonga spotted him outside the Market Square Registrar General’s Office and alerted authorities, leading to his arrest.
