Zimbabwe’s premier horse racing The Castle Tankard premier Horserace, is set to return for its 65th edition on Saturday, May 10, at Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare.
The high-profile competition, hosted by Castle Lager in partnership with the Mashonaland Turf Club, the oldest Grade One Horserace, carries a prize purse of USD $50,000.
The event attracts top jockeys, horses, and trainers from across the country and region, with high stakes and national attention.
Organisers say preparations are in full swing, with thousands of spectators expected to gather for a day of racing, entertainment, and leisure.
Alongside the sporting action, the event will feature live performances by popular local artists including Alick Macheso, Enzo Ishall, Delroy Shewe, Nisha T, Oriyano, and the Chillspot Family.
In a statement, Delta Beverages, the main sponsor through its Castle Lager brand, emphasized the event’s significance not only in sporting circles but also as a cultural celebration.
“This year’s Castle Tankard is more than a race it’s a celebration of heritage, unity, and world-class entertainment. We’re proud to be part of this legacy,” read the statement.
Now in its sixth decade, the Castle Tankard continues to hold a firm place in Zimbabwe’s social and sporting calendar, blending the thrill of horse racing with the energy of local entertainment.
Spectators are encouraged to attend early to enjoy the full lineup of activities, which will include traditional braais, beverages, and family-friendly attractions.
