The Zimbabwe Nurses Association is preparing to launch a comprehensive retirement package for its registered members, a move aimed at improving financial stability and supporting members’ transition out of active service.

According to a statement released by ZINA, the proposed retirement plan includes a key provision allowing eligible members to receive part of their retirement benefits six months before their official retirement date. The initiative is intended to give retiring nurses a financial head start in pursuing personal projects, investments, or other income-generating ventures after leaving the profession.

“The early disbursement is designed to give members a head start in establishing and growing personal projects or investments, ensuring they have a stable source of income post-retirement,” the association said.

The retirement package is part of broader efforts by ZINA to improve the welfare of nurses in the country, who have long faced economic challenges, including poor remuneration and tough working conditions in the public health sector.

ZINA has not yet disclosed the total value of the retirement payouts or how the program will be funded. However, the association says consultations are ongoing, and more details will be shared with members in the coming weeks, with over clarity on eligibility, funding, and long-term sustainability lingering.
