ZTTU Juniors Win Bronze at Region 5 Youth Games

The Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union delivered an impressive performance at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games recently held in Namibia, where its Junior National Team secured a total of three bronze medals.

The commendable haul included one medal in the Boys Team category and two in Mixed Doubles, underscoring Zimbabwe's growing competitiveness in regional table tennis.

Under the expert leadership of Head Coach Brian Chamboko and Team Manager Ms. Fungai Tanhara Zinatsa, Zimbabwe’s junior athletes displayed remarkable skill, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament.

The medal-winning squad featured Naama Boterere, Ruvarashe Charuma, Tatenda Timire, Shallom Makoni, Propheser Mwatsika, and Carrington Nourumba. Their dedication not only earned them podium finishes but also brought pride to the nation and inspiration to young athletes across Zimbabwe.

ZTTU President Noah Ferenando praised the team’s efforts and celebrated the Union’s continued progress in developing youth talent. “This achievement by our junior players reflects the hard work and commitment we’ve invested in nurturing young talent across the country.

We are immensely proud of the team’s performance in Namibia, and this success marks just the beginning of a brighter future for Zimbabwean table tennis. Our focus remains on developing these athletes and inspiring the next generation to reach even greater heights,” he said.

The Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union extended heartfelt appreciation to the coaching staff, management, and all supporters whose contributions made this success possible. 

The strong showing at the Region 5 Youth Games serves as a significant milestone for Zimbabwean sport and reinforces ZTTU’s mission to cultivate excellence and opportunity within the national table tennis community.

As the Union builds on this momentum, it remains committed to elevating young talent and strengthening Zimbabwe’s position in the sport across the continent.
