Zim emerges 4th in AUSC Region 5 games

Team Zimbabwe scooped a total of 84 medals in different sporting disciplines at the just-ended African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games held in Malawi.

The young Zimbabwean athletes brought home 12 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 48 bronze medals from 11 sporting disciplines.

Things did not work in basketball and eSport, which recorded zero medals for Team Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe tennis team dominated with six gold medals followed by athletics.

Overall, Zimbabwe ended the games on position 4 out the 10 countries that took part in the games. South Africa dominated the tournament after scooping a total of 111 medals with 61 gold medals.

The AUSC Region 5 was developed to promote sport and athletes, excellence in 10 Southern African countries. The inaugural Region 5 Games were held in Mozambique in 2004 and Malawi hosted the 10th edition of the Games dubbed the Region 5 Youth Games Lilongwe 2022.
