Two suspects, including a security guard employed at the victims’ residence, have been remanded in custody on allegations of robbing a Chinese couple of over US$37 300 in cash and valuables in Harare.

The court remanded Brian Kambarami, 43, and Tinashe Muguti, 38, in custody to September 15 for routine remand, directing them to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutors allege that on August 23, 2025, the complainant and her husband, Shaolin Chen, arrived at their home in a white Toyota Prado.

As they entered the gate, the accused, already waiting inside the yard and armed with pistols, confronted the complainant.

The suspects allegedly opened the passenger door, seizing a white handbag containing US$32 000 in cash, a Samsung Galaxy phone, car keys, and casino chips worth US$5,000, before fleeing the scene.

The incident was immediately reported to ZRP Mbare. Police reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed collusion between Kambarami and Muguti, with evidence showing the gate had been opened to allow the accomplices inside.

Court documents state that Kambarami admitted to committing the offense with Muguti and others who remain at large.

He later led police to his home, where US$800 — his share of the loot — was recovered.
