The National Railways of Zimbabwe has launched a new leisure train service between Harare and Mutare, offering passengers an affordable tourism experience with onboard comfort and entertainment.
In partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, NRZ introduced the special rail service to coincide with the Sanganai/Hlanganani/UNWTO Tourism Expo. The launch reflects the event’s theme: “Developing Sustainable Tourism Development — Our Future.”
The refurbished train will carry up to 243 passengers in deluxe coaches featuring both dining and viewing areas, showcasing Zimbabwe’s scenic railway landscapes.
“While on board, entertainment will be provided and refreshments served,” NRZ said in a statement, describing the service as a revival of rail tourism, which has been absent for decades.
The leisure train will depart Harare on September 6 and return from Mutare on September 8, with stopovers at Rusape and Nyazura for sightseeing and photo opportunities.
Tickets are priced at US$60 one way, a move NRZ says makes the experience “affordable and accessible to all.”
