Please do something about our football honourable Minister

Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry

Dear Minister Kirsty

Season’s Greetings to you our dear Minister Kirsty Coventry. It has been a while indeed since we saw you addressing issues of the Youth, Sport,

Arts and Recreation industry and I do not remember the last time you addressed issues to do with football in particular.

Dear Hon Minister, I have mentioned football because I feel it is going to the gutter under your watch.

Hon Minister, do you have a plan for our football, or you are happy to turn a blind eye on something which brings food to our tables?

Dear Minister, I will be simple and to the point.

Remember when you won several medals, including the gold medal at the Olympics, the current generation you are not helping to achieve their dreams is the same generation which supported you to reach these dizzy heights. They love you.

Prominent football players have called for the re-instatement of the Felton Kamambo Zifa-led executive not because we are in support of them but this is what world football mother body Fifa wants.

Fifa has been clear to you and all of us, why are you and the Sports and Recreation Commission being stubborn, you cannot change the laws in Rome because when you are in Rome you do everything the Rome way.

In football, you do things the Fifa way, Zimbabwe is not that important that Fifa needs us, we are the ones who need Fifa, and we are the ones who need their platforms.

We have failed to participate in major tournaments, our talents are now being directed to mutoriro and other illicit drugs. Kindly feel for the young boys and girls, dear Hon Minister.

Football has taken a lot of families out of poverty so, please do not deprive the current generation of the platform to earn a living from the world’s most beautiful game.

If the situation persists, surely history will judge you harshly and the same history will tell the future generations who placed Zimbabwe football on a guillotine.

Minister in the history of Zimbabwe, you are the first Minister who presided over football matters when our stadia have been barred by the Confederation of African Football and Fifa.

As you are feasting during this festive season, remember the players you have deprived to earn a better living by feeding their families during this festive season.

Football is business and it should be treated as such, Hon Minister. I hope you will do the right thing so that our beloved players enjoy the sport they love at the bigger and better platforms.

Yours In Football

Phil Jambaya
