Federal investigators say the man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah last week had signaled his intentions in advance, leaving behind multiple warnings.
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, sent a text message to another individual stating he planned to kill Kirk.
Patel also disclosed that investigators believe Robinson wrote a handwritten note declaring he had the “opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk.”

Though the note was destroyed, its existence and contents were confirmed through forensic analysis and interviews.
Additional evidence has tied Robinson to the crime scene. DNA matching his profile was found on a towel wrapped around the rifle used in the attack and on a screwdriver discovered on a rooftop from where shots were believed to have been fired.
Robinson remains in custody in a Utah jail and is expected to face formal charges as early as Tuesday. Authorities said he has not cooperated with investigators, though friends and relatives are being questioned to determine a motive.
Meanwhile, the Washington Post reported that Robinson had apparently confessed online shortly before his arrest. In a message sent via Discord, an account linked to Robinson wrote, “It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.” The shooting occurred at Utah Valley University in Orem, about 65 km south of Salt Lake City.
