A 25-year-old Zimbabwean woman is reportedly being held hostage and facing sexual abuse after she was trafficked by an unknown man to Oman in April.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said they are currently investigating the matter.
The 25-year-old from Marondera was lured to travel to Oman by an unknown Zimbabwean who promised her employment.
“The suspect, who arranged the travelling logistics is reportedly abusing the victim in the foreign country. He is threatening her to refund the US$1 800 that he claims to have used for the victim’s travelling expenses,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
Earlier in November, more than 100 victims of human trafficking were reported to have been rescued from Oman after enduring months of inhumane treatment at the hands of their employers in the Gulf state.
One of the victims, Fungai Manyara, whose video went viral while crying out for help.
Despite her employers having maintained a stranglehold on her demanding a refund of US$4 000 which they claimed they used to buy her from Zimbabwe, she was successfully rescued.
