Musician Mukudzeyi Mukombe, a.k.a Jah Prayzah, on Tuesday entertained Harare Central Prison inmates, carried out a search for talent while looking at ways he can assist the incarcerated nurture their musical gifts.

Jah Prayzah’s Manager Nigel Mushapaidze told Zim Now the primary purpose of the visit was to cheer up the inmates.

“The prison, as we all know, is not a good place to stay. It’s a confined space so we were there to encourage and motivate prisoners that despite being incarcerated they can still have control over their future.

“We also visited to scout for talent. Most of the prisoners have potential which has been overridden by crimes they committed and we were there to inspire them so that they can use their talents to take care of their families even while inside,” he said.

He added that they intend to nurture musical talent so that the jailed can earn a living through royalties even if they cannot hold shows.

Several musicians have toured prisons in the past including Sulumani Chimbetu, Nicholas Zakaria, Machanic Manyeruke, Leonard Zhakata, Ronnie Mudhindo, First Farai, Progress Chipfumo, Gift Amuli and Hubert Chigumura in 2013.

In 2017, ZPCS ambassador Suluman Chimbetu performed at the Chikurubi Maximum Prison during the Family Week along with Kapfupi, Guspy Warrior, Biggie Tembo and Franco Slomo.
