The Portfolio Committee on Energy and Power Development is set to commence an inquiry this Tuesday into the unchecked proliferation of fuel service stations across Harare, citing serious public safety and environmental concerns.
Committee Chairperson, Charlton Hwende announced the commencement of the investigation, which is focused on the rapid conversion of residential stands into filling stations. Hwende attributed this trend to what he called "weak enforcement of zoning laws and corruption by city officials."

The unmonitored development means communities are increasingly exposed to significant hazards, including the heightened risk of fire, explosions, and environmental damage.
The parliamentary probe will investigate three core areas: existing licensing practices, adherence to safety compliance standards, and the overall impact of uncontrolled market entry on public safety.
Hwende has issued a public appeal for assistance, urging residents: "If you believe a service station in your area poses a danger to your community, DM me or post it here."
