Zimbabwe aligns legislation with Global AI trends

 

Zimbabwe is taking steps to establish a legislative framework that will enable the country to keep pace with global developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, confirmed that the country's development goals are in sync with the agenda of digital transformation driven by AI.

"We have established collaborations with universities in Zimbabwe to come up with appropriate legislation to regulate the use of AI," Mudenda said. The University of Zimbabwe and Bindura University of Science Education are among the institutions working with the government on this initiative.

Mudenda also highlighted the need for action-oriented approaches to implement agreements like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). "We need to change our immigration and customs laws to facilitate the free movement of goods and services between African countries," he emphasized.

The Conference of Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments, hosted by the Pan-African Parliament, provided a platform for discussions on transforming parliaments for citizen-driven continental integration and sustainable development.
