The October 3 sentencing follows an eight-week trial that drew national attention. Combs, founder of Bad Boy Records, had faced multiple charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, but he was acquitted on those counts earlier this year. The remaining prostitution charges carried a maximum possible penalty of 10 years.

Testimony during the trial included harrowing accounts from Combs’ former partner, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who described more than a decade of abuse and assault. Jurors also viewed a 2016 security video showing Combs assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway after she attempted to flee one of his so-called “freak-off” parties, events prosecutors said involved sex workers.

Combs had maintained a not-guilty plea throughout the proceedings.
