Five Men Convicted of Stone-Throwing and Robbery on Delport Road


 

The Harare Magistrates’ Court has convicted five men for stone-throwing and robbery in a brazen attack on a vehicle traveling along Delport Road near the Mabvuku turn-off on September 11, 2024.

The convicted individuals are Wayne Musanyera ,22, Ibrahim Banda ,25, Tichatyei Joe ,33, Ahashi Mutetwa ,26, and one other unidentified accomplice.

According to the prosecution, led by Tendai Tapi, the victims — Brighton Tennie, Macdonald Kakwela, Ephraim Mungwere, and Isaac Lloyd — were traveling along Delport Road when the accused rolled large stones onto the road, forcing the driver to stop.

The gang then began pelting the vehicle with stones. During the chaos, Lloyd managed to escape on foot, while the remaining passengers were attacked and robbed of their mobile phones and cash.

The stolen items included a Redmi phone, an iPhone X, and a Samsung A31.

Banda later drove the stolen vehicle to Domboramwari, near Balancing Rocks in Epworth, where it was abandoned.

Following police investigations, the suspects were arrested, and some of the stolen property was recovered.

The court convicted the five men, who were each sentenced to nine years in prison.
