ZRP Releases Update on Fatal Masvingo–Beitbridge Road Crash

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has released an update on a tragic road accident that occurred on 16 November 2025 along the Masvingo–Beitbridge Road, claiming four lives and injuring fourteen others.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that the accident occurred at around 1720 hours at the 155-kilometre peg, when a Scania bus carrying 26 passengers veered off the road, overturned and landed on its roof.

The injured were rushed to Rutenga Clinic before being transferred to Neshuro Hospital for further treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Neshuro Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

“The names of the victims will be released once next of kin have completed identification,” Nyathi added.

The police also reminded motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations. “Motorists should avoid speeding and obey all road rules and regulations to safeguard human lives,” the ZRP said.

Drivers were urged to inspect tyres—including spare wheels—to ensure they are in good condition, and to check that windscreens and wipers are functioning properly, especially during the rainy season. The police warned that cracked or broken windscreens must be repaired promptly, as they “significantly impair vision and increase the risk of accidents.”

With the festive season approaching, the ZRP appealed to vehicle owners to promptly remove broken-down vehicles from the roads to reduce hazards. They further stressed the importance of ensuring all vehicles are regularly serviced and certified roadworthy.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility for all Zimbabweans,” the police noted, encouraging passengers in public service vehicles to report reckless driving.
