
A 37-year-old man from Beitbridge, Tawedzegwa Hove, has been sentenced to an effective 30 months in prison by the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of stealing a Toyota Fortuner in a daring theft incident.
The court heard that on August 5, 2025, around 7pm, the victim had parked his silver Toyota Fortuner GD6 outside a gate in the Mashavire suburb of Beitbridge while visiting his mother.
The vehicle was left unattended with the engine running and the ignition key still in place.
Seizing the opportunity, Hove and four unidentified accomplices allegedly jumped into the vehicle and sped off.

The victim immediately began tracking the stolen vehicle and, after five days of pursuit, managed to locate and apprehend Hove on August 10, 2025.
The vehicle was successfully recovered, though the accomplices remain at large.
Hove was subsequently arrested and brought before the court, where he was found guilty of theft of a motor vehicle.
Magistrates sentenced him to 48 months in prison, with 18 months suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective 30 months behind bars.
