
A 35-year-old Chitungwiza man has been jailed for 10 years by the Harare Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of a violent armed robbery committed in Avondale on July 11, 2025.
Lot Gwesu of Zengeza 5 appeared before Regional Magistrate Donald Ndirowei, who found him guilty of orchestrating the robbery together with two accomplices who are still at large.
The court heard that the complainant was searching for parking at a restaurant in Avondale when the trio attacked.
Armed with a pistol, the robbers forced the victim to drive towards Westgate while Gwesu followed behind in a white Mercedes Benz getaway vehicle.

At the Westgate roundabout, the gang commandeered the vehicle and diverted to a secluded spot along Nemakonde Way. There, they stripped the complainant of two jackets, an iPhone 14, an iPhone X, and US$840 in cash.
After ransacking the vehicle, the gang tied the victim’s hands and legs with cable ties before dumping him in Nyabira and fleeing.
The total value of the stolen property was US$5 840, of which only US$1 200 worth was recovered.
On July 23, detectives received a tip-off that led to Gwesu’s arrest. The white Mercedes Benz used in the robbery and the victim’s already-sold iPhone 14 were recovered.
Magistrate Ndirowei sentenced Gwesu to 10 years in prison, stressing the premeditated and violent nature of the crime.
