A 17-year-old girl from Gwanda, who is suffering from Down’s syndrome, is six months’ pregnant after she was repeatedly sexually abused by several people from her area, including her 16-year-old brother.
The teenager claims she was first raped by an unidentified man who dragged her to a bushy area before sexually abusing her.
She has also named a 17-year-old neighbour, her young brother and his friends as others who raped her several times.
The matter came to light in November last year after her aunt, whom she stays with, suspected that she was pregnant, but the family did not report the matter to the police.
Authorities only learnt about the matter last week after a ward coordinator from Nkomwa Foundation Trust, a disability organisation, identified the girl.
The organisation then launched an investigation into the matter before handing over the case to the police.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena said the case 3was being investigated, adding that no arrests have been made yet.
