Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume, under fire from some sections of social media for his promise to have revamped Rufaro Stadium in time for the 2023 season which kicks off in March, has reassured the nation the facility will host a Premier Soccer League match at the start of the season in March this year.
Speaking to Zimbabwe Now, Mafume said work will commence in a few days.
"All we have to prepare is the pitch and the ground to beautify it. The ground is a solid ground, everything has been functioning before, and preparing dressing rooms to international standards can be done before March.
"We are not building a stadium afresh, we are simply doing what we call beautification and interior decorations," said Mafume.
He added that the council received the requirements from the PSL.
"We inspected the stadium with PSL and ZIFA representatives. We will get the Press an Referees’ requirements as well.
"We are doing the processes at the same time due to the tight deadlines. Mbare is our focus," he said.
Because of its sorry state Rufaro last hosted PSL matches in 2019.
