Mashonaland Central Surpasses Hectare Target

Mashonaland Central Province has surpassed its 2025/26 agricultural planting target after farmers planted more than 270,000 hectares, exceeding the provincial benchmark set by government.

The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the milestone, praising farmers for their resilience and commitment despite climatic and input-related challenges. Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Permanent Secretary, Professor Obert Jiri, commended the province’s performance but cautioned that the critical phase of the season now lies ahead.

“Congratulations Mashonaland Central.

Farmers here have officially surpassed the provincial target of 270,000 hectares,” the Ministry said in a statement, quoting Prof Jiri. “The momentum is incredible, but the job isn’t done yet. Let’s now focus on crop management.”

Addressing farmers in the province, Prof Jiri announced that the biological window for maize and tobacco planting has officially closed, urging producers to halt any further planting activities.

“To avoid poor yields from a shortened season, farmers must now shift 100 percent focus from planting to managing what is already in the ground,” he said.
