The completion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Harare adds a significant landmark to the capital’s religious and social landscape, highlighting the growing role of faith institutions in community life.
Church leaders describe the temple as a sacred space set apart for worship, reflection and spiritual renewal, with areas reserved for ordinances regarded by members as deeply symbolic and spiritually uplifting.
Government said such institutions complement national development by reinforcing social values and contributing to stability at family and community level.

Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe said the relationship between the State and the church continues to support the wellbeing of the country.
“The place is filled with so much serenity, comfort and peacefulness,” Garwe said, describing the atmosphere within the temple.
Beyond its religious purpose, the temple is expected to attract worshippers from across the region, including Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, positioning Harare as a destination for regional faith-based travel.
“The temple’s doors will swing open not only for Zimbabweans but for pilgrims from neighbouring countries,” Garwe added.
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume said developments of this nature also contribute to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among different faiths, reflecting Zimbabwe’s tradition of religious tolerance.
