Stolen ZIMSEC O’ Level Results Recovered in Dangamvura Rubbish Bin

Police in Mutare have recovered 2025 ZIMSEC Ordinary Level results slips that were stolen from the headmaster of Chiwere Secondary School and later dumped in a rubbish bin in Dangamvura.

Manicaland acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the recovery, saying one suspect has since been arrested in connection with the robbery.

The headmaster, Tizai Gwazhi, 49, was attacked on Monday night in Dangamvura shortly after collecting the results from the ZIMSEC offices in Mutare.

According to police, Gwazhi had earlier attended a results evaluation workshop at the ZIMSEC offices, which ended at around 5pm. He then went to a bar in Mutare’s central business district, where he reportedly drank three quarts of beer before boarding a commuter omnibus to Dangamvura.

Gwazhi intended to spend the night at a friend’s house in Area 16 but was unfamiliar with the route. Although he asked the conductor to drop him off at the Area 16 turn-off, the omnibus continued to MaPipe in Gimboki, forcing him to disembark there and walk back.

As he was walking near the ZAOGA Church in Area 3, two unknown men allegedly emerged from a nearby maize field. One of them tripped him from behind, and the pair assaulted him before stealing his satchel and fleeing into the darkness.

The stolen bag contained the school’s O-Level results slips, a cash book, fees application forms, the school date stamp, an ink pad, work-related documents, his national identity card, a short-sleeved shirt and an Infinix cellphone. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at US$93.

Police later received information that a man, identified as MacCthy Tshuma of Gimboki South, was attempting to sell a cellphone matching the stolen device. He was arrested at his home and led officers to where the phone and the results slips had been dumped in a rubbish bin in Area 3.

Another suspect, known only as “Maradona”, is still at large.

Following the robbery, Gwazhi sought refuge at the church and spent the night there before reporting the incident to Dangamvura Police Station the following morning.
