Former ZAS Procurement Officer Charged with Fraud

A former procurement officer at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, Calisto Pedzisai, 33, of Chitungwiza, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing fraud charges.

ZAS, represented by Chipo Katsidzira, alleges that Pedzisai misappropriated company funds during his tenure at the organisation.

According to prosecutor Polite Chikiwa, the matter came to light following a complaint lodged in November 2024 by supplier Tyson Maparara, who reported that he had received only US$100 for a ground aerator machine valued at US$300.

Investigations revealed that Pedzisai had collected US$500 from ZAS for the transaction but only remitted US$100 to the supplier.

A forensic audit conducted between March 1, 2024, and November 20, 2024, allegedly uncovered Pedzisai’s modus operandi, which involved bypassing company procurement procedures by sourcing cheaper alternative suppliers and pocketing the price difference.

The audit established a total prejudice of US$57,245.16 and ZiG$925,293.

Pedzisai reportedly failed to account for the missing funds, prompting ZAS to report the matter to the police.

He is expected to return to court on February 26, 2026.
