
A 28-year-old man from the Chief Mutema area in Chipinge has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after being convicted of indecently assaulting a minor and physically attacking her mother.
The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court heard that on December 27, 2025, the offender unlawfully entered the complainant’s home, where a seven-year-old girl was sitting in the kitchen with her mother, and attempted to indecently assault the child.

The child’s mother intervened, burning the offender on the neck with a glowing piece of firewood in an effort to protect her daughter. In retaliation, the offender struck her on the face and back with a log.
The ensuing commotion alerted community members, who rushed to the scene and chased the offender away.
The matter was later reported to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest.
The court convicted him on one count of indecent assault and one count of assault, sentencing him to an effective 12 months’ imprisonment.
