TelOne FC Signals 2026 Intent

TelOne FC President Oscah Nduwure has officially signaled the club’s intent to rise from mid-table finishers to genuine title contenders, declaring that the "Wi-Fi Boys" are targeting a top-four finish in the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. Speaking on the sidelines of the PSL pre-season workshop in Harare on Saturday, Nduwure confirmed that the Gweru-based side is undergoing a significant overhaul to improve upon last season’s fifth-place finish.

Backed by one of Zimbabwe’s largest telecommunications companies, TelOne FC has moved aggressively in the transfer market, strengthening the squad through key signings and strategic player retention. The club aims to turn its steady upward trajectory into a direct challenge against the league’s established elite. The rise of the "Wi-Fi Boys" has been remarkably rapid: they finished 10th in 2024 and jumped to 5th in 2025, setting the stage for their current pursuit of silverware.

Despite the high-profile loss of reigning Soccer Star of the Year Washington Navaya, Nduwure expressed total confidence in head coach Herbert Maruwa’s recruitment strategy. He noted that the club has identified the gaps from the previous campaign and has signed specific personnel to address them. Preparations are already in high gear, with the squad expected to depart for a local pre-season camp in either Bulawayo or Kariba as early as next week.

The TelOne FC president confirmed several major additions to the roster, including the acquisition of experienced campaigner Jerry Chipangura and midfield engine Innocent Mucheneka. The team has also secured goalkeeper Takudzwa Chikosi and welcomed back former player Marvelous Chigumira. To solidify a defense that will be critical for a top-four charge, the club has also brought in Chelsea Nyakope.

Crucial to their 2026 ambitions is the retention of the team’s core leadership. Captain Frank Makarati and Leeroy Murape remain central to the squad, alongside versatile forward Tawanda Macheke, who proved indispensable last season with 17 goal involvements. Nduwure emphasized that the goal is simple progression, noting that no chairperson wants to see their club drop in standards after achieving success.

To match the club's on field ambition, TelOne is currently investing in the renovation of Ascot Stadium to meet Zifa First Instance Board requirements. The infrastructure upgrades include increasing the number of stadium exits to three and installing new ticket booths to handle the anticipated surge in match-day attendance.
