Fake embassy official swindles R1300

 

A 31-year-old administrator was conned out of R1300 by a fake South African embassy official who promised to help him process a permit at the Harare embassy.

Blessing Mahachi, 43, of Budiriro 5B, appeared at the Harare Magistrate's Courts charged with fraud.

The complainant, Leddy Muzamba, was approached by Mahachi at the South African embassy on March 3, 2026, after being told the embassy was closed.

Mahachi claimed to be an embassy employee and offered to help Muzamba process his permit for US$257.

Muzamba handed over R1300, with the balance to be paid later.

When he tried to collect his permit on March 5, Mahachi asked for the remaining payment, but Muzamba requested receipts.

Mahachi was arrested on March 6 at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital after Muzamba reported him to the police.

The R1300 was not recovered.
