CAPS United maintain perfect start with dominant win over Hardrock FC

CAPS United have extended their flawless opening to the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, claiming a fourth successive victory by overcoming Hardrock FC. Under the guidance of coach Takesure Chiragwi, the Green Machine have firmly established themselves as early title contenders, adding Hardrock to a list of defeated opponents that already includes Agama, Herentals, and Triangle.

The contest exploded into life immediately after kick-off. Within four minutes, the Harare giants were ahead through the clinical Ishmael Wadi. The in-form forward demonstrated sharp predatory instincts when Obriel Chirinda’s initial effort crashed off the upright; Wadi was first to the rebound, slotting home his second goal of the campaign to give the visitors an early cushion.

Hardrock FC refused to be intimidated by the early deficit and fought their way back into the match. Much of their offensive threat originated on the right flank via Sambulo Simelani, whose blistering pace and precise deliveries tested the CAPS United backline. Despite a sustained period of pressure and several corner kicks, Hardrock lacked the clinical edge required to turn their dominance into goals.

The drama intensified around the 30-minute mark when Chirinda was denied by the woodwork for a second time. His powerful strike hit the inside of the crossbar and appeared to bounce over the line. While the CAPS United players and travelling supporters celebrated what they thought was a second goal, the referee remained unmoved and waved play on.

Hardrock emerged for the second half with renewed vigour, nearly drawing level through 2025 Soccer Star of the Year Washington Navaya. However, the striker was thwarted by a superb save from CAPS goalkeeper Magalane, who preserved the narrow lead.

The points were eventually made safe by teenage sensation Allen Mukombedzi. Introduced as a substitute, the youngster continued his habit of making an instant impact. The goal was a carbon copy of the opener in terms of alertness: a teasing cross saw Wadi rise highest to header against the bar, and Mukombedzi was on hand to nod the rebound into the net.

With 12 points from a possible 12, Takesure Chiragwi’s side has issued a definitive statement to the rest of the league. As the momentum builds in these opening weeks, the Green Machine looks like a formidable force in the hunt for the 2026 title.
