Raza Nominated for Two Top ANSA Awards

 

Zimbabwe Cricket captain Sikandar Raza has once again been thrust into the national sporting spotlight after earning nominations for two major honours at the 2025 Annual National Sports Awards.

The all-rounder has been shortlisted for both Sportsman of the Year and the prestigious Sports Person of the Year awards, placing him among Zimbabwe’s most celebrated athletes across all sporting codes.

Raza’s nomination follows another influential year in which he continued to play a pivotal role for the Chevrons across formats. Renowned for his match-winning performances with both bat and ball, the veteran cricketer remains one of Zimbabwe’s most consistent international performers and a central leader within the national side.

In the Sportsman of the Year category, Raza faces stiff competition from Olympic sprinter Tapiwanashe Makarawu, representing the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe, and accomplished karateka Wilfred Mashaya. 

The trio’s presence across multiple ANSA nominations reflects the growing depth of elite talent within Zimbabwean sport.

The race for the ultimate Sports Person of the Year accolade will also see Raza go head-to-head with rising tennis star Sasha Chimedza alongside Makarawu, setting up one of the most closely watched contests of this year’s awards ceremony.

Raza’s influence extends beyond individual recognition. Zimbabwe’s men’s T20 cricket team, the Chevrons, has also been nominated for Team of the Year, underscoring the impact of his leadership and performances on the national game.
