NAAZ Names 11-Member Squad for African Senior Championships

 

The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe has unveiled an 11-member national team set to represent Zimbabwe at the African Senior Championships scheduled for May 12–17 in Accra, Ghana.

The squad features a mix of experienced Olympians and emerging athletes who will compete in sprint, hurdles and relay events.

Zimbabwe’s men’s team will be spearheaded by Olympians Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu, both entered in the 200m event and expected to play key roles in the 4x100m relay team.

Also included in the squad are Methembe Tshuma, Gerren Muwishi, Leeford Zuze and Dennis Hove, who will compete in the 400m races and form part of Zimbabwe’s 4x400m relay lineup. Some members of the quartet are also scheduled to compete at the World Relays in Botswana on May 2 and 3 as part of preparations for the continental competition.

On the women’s side, the team includes four athletes competing across sprint and hurdles events. National 400m hurdles record holder Samukeliso Ndebele headlines the women’s contingent and will feature in relay events.

She is joined by Ashley Kamangirira, Vimbai Maisvorewa and Rutendo Vushe, who are entered for both individual sprint races and relay competitions, including the 4x100m and 4x400m events.

The team will be coached by Phakamile Lisimati.

The African Senior Championships bring together the continent’s top track and field athletes, with Zimbabwe targeting strong performances in sprint and relay disciplines as it continues to build momentum on the international athletics stage.
