The Tanzanian government has banned foreign nationals from distributing goods or providing services reserved for companies wholly owned by Tanzanians, in a move aimed at strengthening local participation in the country’s mining sector.
The announcement was made in Parliament in Dodoma on April 27, 2026, by Minister for Minerals Anthony Mvunde while presenting the ministry’s revenue and expenditure estimates for the 2026/27 financial year.

Mvunde said the directive forms part of the implementation of Tanzania’s Local Content Policy, which seeks to increase the involvement of local businesses in mining value chains while ensuring that economic benefits from the sector remain within the country.
Under the new measure, non-Tanzanians will not be permitted to engage in the distribution of goods or delivery of services that have been officially designated for companies fully owned by Tanzanian citizens. The government will also require mining licence holders to prioritise procurement of goods and services available locally.
Authorities will continue publishing an updated list of services and supplies that must be sourced exclusively from Tanzanian-owned companies. The policy is also expected to reinforce corporate social responsibility obligations for mining companies operating in the country.
Officials say the move is designed to promote domestic enterprise development, enhance skills transfer and increase local economic participation as Tanzania seeks to maximise returns from its mineral resources.
