The court heard that on March 30, 2026, the complainant, Mohammed Akhtar Kadir, had been counting money in his lounge before briefly leaving the house, leaving the cash on a table. It is alleged that Jaison, who was working at the property as a gardener, entered the house during that time and took US$20 000 before leaving unnoticed.
The missing money was discovered on April 24 after the complainant conducted another count and reported the matter to police.
Investigations allegedly linked the accused to sudden unexplained wealth. Police recovered US$800 in cash, a Toyota Aqua, and clothing believed to have been purchased using proceeds of the theft. Other suspected items bought with the money have not yet been recovered.
Jaison is expected back in court today for a bail application.
