
The High Court sitting in Gweru has sentenced an 18-year-old Kwekwe man to 20 years in prison for fatally stabbing his workmate following a dispute.
Tapiwa Mahara of Rugare Village under Chief Chiundura was convicted of murder after he stabbed Kudakwashe Mhlanga during a late-night attack in December last year.
The court heard that on December 4, 2025, Mahara went to Plot 4 West Court in Kwekwe armed with a metal rod looking for Mhlanga, with whom he had previously clashed over a torn T-shirt and allegations of assault.

Witnesses told the court that Mahara had threatened to ambush the now deceased.
Around midnight, Mahara returned to the residence and entered the kitchen where Mhlanga was sleeping before stabbing him once in the chest with a kitchen knife and fleeing the scene.
A witness identified Mahara as he ran away from the house.
Mhlanga staggered outside bleeding heavily before collapsing.
A post-mortem report concluded that the cause of death was hemorrhagic shock, lung laceration, hemothorax, and a stab wound to the chest.
