Saxophonist Joseph Chinouriri scoops award

Harare-based Saxophonist, Joseph Tinotenda Chinouriri, popularly known as Jose Sax Official scooped the Outstanding Wedding Entertainment of the Year 2022 award at the just-ended Zimbabwe Wedding Industry Network Gala Awards.

Sax Official is a Zimbabwean saxophonist who started playing the saxophone between 2010 and 2011.

Speaking to Zimbabwe Now, he said he is grateful for the award since it is his first recognition in Zimbabwe.

“I felt honoured to receive my first Zimbabwean award. I recently received an award in Italy for The Best Collaborated Album titled The Gathering produced by Ferdinando Arno from Italy and it was my wish to have an award from home too. So, I thank God for it,” he said.

Sax Official was honoured to be mentored by the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, whom he played for until his passing.

He said his first inspiration came from Hiram Koopman, who is based in South Africa, and he was then taught to play saxophone by Gian Carlo in Italy in 2013 after being self-taught for about three years.

Saxo Official is a fulltime musician, and is into music business all one can think of in the arts industry.
