Former managing director of State-owned telcoms company, TelOne, Dr Chipo Mutasa, has been appointed as the new board chairperson of national airline, Air Zimbabwe, with immediate effect.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona made the announcement yesterday.
Dr Mtasa replaces Dr Silvanos Gwarinda, who was appointed substantive chair on August 1, last year.
“…the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa has approved the appointment of Dr. Chipo Mtasa as the Chairperson of the Air Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd Board, in terms of Section 11 (9) of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31] and Article 69 of the Air Zimbabwe Articles of Incorporation."
Her appointment, according to Mhona, is with immediate effect.
Aviation expert, Edmund Murambiwa Makona, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry, will deputise Dr Mtasa.
Dr. Mtasa left TelOne in December last year, an entity she joined in 2013, after serving two five-year terms in accordance with the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act (Chapter 10:31).
Telone said at that time Dr Mtasa had achieved a lot with the State-owned entity, leaving it “strategically positioned as a formidable brand, running sustainable business operations, well set for the future”.
