Bus operators have been urged to comply with timetables on route permits to avoid reckless road races for passengers.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police said this violation results in drivers being dragged into dangerous driving and misbehaving with passengers, which causes road traffic accidents in some instances.
“In a bid to ensure compliance with road traffic rules and regulations by public service vehicles the ZRP will, with immediate effect, heighten enforcement on compliance with route permits and timetables.
“Owners of public service vehicles are therefore advised to adhere to the dictates of their route permits and timetables forthwith,” police said.
Generally, public service vehicle owners have been urged to cooperate with traffic police officers to ensure sanity prevails on the roads.
On Monday, a Stallion Cruise bus was involved in a road traffic accident resulting in the death of some passengers while several others were injured.
The bus, which was travelling from Harare to Chiredzi via Chivhu and Zaka, slipped and rolled three times in Beatrice.
On January 23, the police recorded 108 fatal accidents and 148 people were killed between December 15, 2022-January 15, 2023.
