Six Maranatha Christian High School students have won the 2023 Global De La Vega Company of the Year Competitions held in Dubai for creating an application that makes education accessible to all.

The application, which is called Study Buddie, provides a platform where teachers and students can interact and share learning resources.

Blessing Bvunzawabaya, In'utu Mubiana, Tinovonga Sagonda, Kudzai Katambarare, Taridzo Chandahwa, and Shingirirai Muchini, who represented Africa, won US$15 000 and an entrepreneurship course from the institution of their choice. They beat seven other continental champions.

The Ralph De La Vega Global Entrepreneurship Competition recognises outstanding young entrepreneurs and seeks to train students with entrepreneurial skills.

Maranatha is the first African school to win the competition which is sponsored by Junior Achievement (JA) Global, an organisation with a mission to economically empower the youth by bridging the gap between classroom education and the world of work.

The 2023 competition included teams from Greece (JA Europe), Ohio (Junior Achievement USA), UAE (INJAZ Al-Arab), Mexico (JA Americas), Guam (JA Asia Pacific), and Zimbabwe (JA Africa).

Last year, Maranatha Christian High scooped four awards in other competitions held in Nigeria.
