Alick Macheso, Mark Ngwazi, Dorcas Moyo, Freeman and Theophilus Chigumira have been confirmed as the nominees for this year’s National Arts and Merit Award People’s choice award category.

The revelation was made by Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation spokesperson Tinashe Kitchen.

The People's Choice selection is based only on the total number of votes each finalist receives and is separate from the selection of the category award winners.

Kitchen said the award applies to all artistic genres like music, film and television, literary arts, dance, visual arts, theatre or spoken word.

“The People’s Choice Award is the most exciting award presented at the NAMAs. It gives the people of Zimbabwe an opportunity to be heard by nominating their favourite artiste from any genre. Singers, dancers, authors, sculptors, and actors are all eligible for consideration.

“The general public is invited to nominate their favourite artist via our Facebook page (National Art Merit Awards) and nominations closed on the 20th of February. From there, the people will once again vote for their favourite who will be announced on the 25th of February at the Nama ceremony,” Kitchen said.

Holy Ten is expected to do a live performance at the awards.

Meanwhile, Qonfused said he will no longer submit for awards after failing to get nominations following several submissions at the NAMA.

The musician said he had submitted for outstanding song, male artist of the year, outstanding diaspora artist and outstanding music video.
